Nushka Moreaux

Nushka Moreaux paints the female body as her one enduring subject, but treats it through structure and colour rather than story. The brushwork is vivid and fast, set against a subject as old as painting itself, so the pictures feel at once classical and contemporary.

She came to it sideways, having studied politics and economics at Sciences Po and HEC and run a contemporary gallery before painting full time in 2014. Largely self-taught, she took her first lessons from the American painter Maggie Siner and works mainly in oil, on canvas and on wood.

Born in Lille in 1983, she has held solo exhibitions in Paris, Marseille and Dubai, shown in group exhibitions from Venice to Los Angeles and Miami, and been named a Saatchi Art Rising Star.

She lives and works in Marseille.
