Patrick Bremer's artworks are legible from across the room and genuinely rewarding up close, where the subjects dissolve into fragments of books, maps, nature photography, and typography. The work rewards proximity in a way that very little figurative art currently does.
Each piece is built entirely from cut paper: magazines, books, printed ephemera selected and assembled by hand into compositions where the overall image and its constituent materials exist in equal tension. There is no digital assistance. The process is slow, material, and entirely dependent on what Bremer finds and chooses.
He studied painting at Wimbledon College of Art and is a recipient of the DeLazlo Foundation Award from the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. Commercial clients include Google, the BBC, Cadillac, Caltech, and Der Spiegel, with editorial work in the New Yorker and the Times Literary Supplement.
He lives and works on the edge of Exmoor in West Somerset.
