The surfaces are built using gravity and chance as much as intention, impasto and dusted pigment forming peaks and troughs that read like terrain. The titles, often grid references or place names, come first and shape everything that follows, so the painting becomes a kind of coordinate, a way of marking where something happened.

Comber studied at Wimbledon School of Art and holds an MA from Chelsea College of Art. Her work has shown at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and is held in the Deutsche Bank, Coutts, and Sainsbury's collections, among others.

She lives and works in Sussex, where the surrounding land informs much of her recent output.
