Eugene Ankomah

Eugene refuses to settle into a single style. He moves between painting, drawing, sculpture and print, and between ways of working, on purpose, so that each piece looks nothing like the last. What holds it together is the energy and restlessness, and the sense of an artist still working things out in the open.

Born in London of Ghanaian descent, he works across acrylic, oil and mixed media, letting the subject decide the method rather than the other way around.

In 2002 he designed the Ghanaian flag flown above Buckingham Palace for the Queen's Golden Jubilee. He studied at Central Saint Martins and the University of Westminster, has won the Apthorp Fund for Young Artists twice, and has exhibited across Europe, Africa and the United States, including at the Royal Festival Hall. His work is held in the collections of Chiwetel Ejiofor, Colin Salmon and Uri Geller.

He lives and works in London.
