Born in London in 1978 of Ghanaian descent, Eugene Ankomah completed a Foundation course at Central Saint Martins before graduating in Illustration and Fine Art at the University of Westminster.
At 17 he became the first recipient of the Peter Evans Award at Willesden High School, and subsequent prizes include the Apthorp Fund for Young Artists, won twice, alongside the Urban Tension Prize and the Contemporary Portraits Prize. His practice spans painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, and mixed media, shifting between styles with deliberate unpredictability. He designed the Ghanaian flag raised above Buckingham Palace for the Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002, and has exhibited across Europe, Africa, and the United States, including at the Royal Festival Hall and Gallery Technohoros in Athens. His work is held in the collections of Chiwetel Ejiofor, Colin Salmon, and Uri Geller. He is based in London.
