Domenica De Ferranti

Domenica de Ferranti's sculptures function as a travel diary, each piece a record of an encounter, a Maasai herder, a woman carrying water in Burma, a hunter from the Hadzabe tribe, rendered with a tactile, rhythmic handling that favours simplified form over surface detail.

Trained in the atelier tradition in Florence and later as a furniture maker, she works across bronze, wood, plaster, and carved marble, moving fluidly between portraiture and the symbolic treatment of human, animal, and tree forms.

Early recognition came quickly: the Tiranti Prize from the Society of Portrait Sculptors and the Young Artist Award from the Society of Women Artists, both in 2009, followed by the Chelsea Art Society's Jackson Sculpture Prize in 2010.

She is a Member of the Royal Society of Sculptors and is based in South London.
