Description

A Uriel Caspi sculpture looks simultaneously ancient and scientific. He builds large ceramic forms that borrow from techniques thousands of years old and finishes them in an iridescent Arabian lustre made with precious earth metals, so the surfaces shimmer like something dug up from a future civilisation.

His method deliberately collides eras. He combines old hand techniques, among them the traditional Jarre-a-la-corde rope-coiling method, with digital fabrication, then glazes the results in that metallic lustre. The pieces are made to be shown together, as large sculptural installations rather than single objects.
