Patrick Michael Reeves is an American impressionist painter whose work captures the light, mood, and energy of coastal and natural landscapes. Rooted in the tradition of plein air painting, his canvases combine abstract shapes with representational imagery in the manner of the Impressionists he has long admired, using loose, expressive brushwork to convey a sense of atmosphere and
place rather than precise description. His paintings carry warmth and immediacy, whether depicting the California coastline, the Spanish countryside, or the expansive skies of the American South.
His training has been rigorous and internationally varied. After graduating with a BFA in Graphic Design from Baylor University, where he studied painting and life drawing under Karl Umlauf, he later studied with Western landscape painter Frank Serrano and DreamWorks Studio artist Mike Hernandez in California, where he joined a community of plein air painters along the coast. In 2019 he travelled to Florence to study under Jacob Dhein, and in 2023 completed an intensive Master Class with artist Jeremy Mann in Spain, an experience that directly inspired his solo exhibition Paintings from Spain.
Born in 1974 in Sewanee, Tennessee, and raised in South Texas near the US-Mexico border, Reeves spent his formative years around the wide open spaces of South Padre Island. Before returning fully to fine art, he built a successful career in design and creative direction, working for brands including Fossil, Abercrombie and Fitch, GAP, Express, and Dakine. He splits his time between Dallas and Charlotte, North Carolina.
