Born in Saskatchewan, Canada in 1963 to Chinese parents, Norm Yip studied fine art at the University of Saskatchewan and architecture at the University of Toronto before relocating to Hong Kong in 1994. He practised as a project architect before leaving the profession in 1999 to pursue painting and photography full time, co-founding the Meli-Melo Artists Alliance shortly after.
