British sculptor Louise Plant trained with the Open College of the Arts while working as a teacher, leaving the classroom to focus on sculpture full time after completing a Post Graduate Certificate in Arts Practice at Derby University.
She was mentored by Helaine Blumenfeld OBE and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Sculptors in 2014, having previously served on its Council and selection panels. Her work moves across Carrara marble, cast iron, stainless steel, and bronze, exploring the forms and rhythms generated by human movement and underwater organic matter. Awards include the Arts Council England Year of the Artist Award and the Brian Mercer Marble Scholarship at Fondazione Sem in Pietrasanta, Italy. Public commissions span the MOD Northwood, Durham County Council, the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok, and a permanent installation at Edinburgh Park. She is based in Devon.
