John Berrick

John Berrick is less interested in what a landscape looks like than in how it moves. His large collages are built around natural forces, not fixed views. He creates rivers, tides, sand dunes and the turning of the seasons as atmosphere and mood rather than picture.

He came to it over a long career elsewhere. After art school in Sydney he spent two decades with Disney, working across Asia and eventually running entertainment at Disneyland Paris, all the while keeping visual diaries of his travels. The sketches, swatches and scraps of printed material he collected are the raw material of the collages he makes now.

His work is held in the University of Newcastle collection and has been shown in Sydney, Hong Kong and Paris, and in a solo exhibition at McKay Williamson in London in 2023.

He lives and works near Paris.
