Description

There is something elemental in Ramsay Gibb’s paintings. His seas and remote landscapes feel suspended between a specific place and something much larger, inviting a slower, more contemplative way of looking. Inspired by the wild Atlantic and Britain’s northern edges, his work considers our relationship with landscapes that remain beyond our control.

Ramsay builds each painting through layers of oil, patiently working towards the movement and changing light of a particular moment. Rather than simply recording what he sees, he considers the moments before and after, giving the sea a sense of constant motion and depth. His journeys through Shetland, the Hebrides, Norway, Greenland and other remote landscapes continue to shape this approach.
