Bernhard Lang is a contemporary photographer celebrated for his striking aerial imagery, captured from helicopters and small aircraft. His compositions transform industrial, agricultural, and recreational sites into compelling geometric patterns, holding aesthetic beauty and environmental commentary in careful balance. The work gives visual form to the tension between human development and the
landscape it alters, examining the effects of human activity on the natural world with equal measures of formal rigour and thought-provoking intent.
His achievements have been recognised with numerous awards, including the Sony World Photography Award in 2015 in the Travel category for his Adriatic series, as well as recognition from the ND Awards and a shortlisting for the Prix Pictet, reflecting the socio-environmental concerns at the heart of his practice.
Born in 1970 in Crailsheim, Germany, Lang has been based in Munich since 1993, where he completed a three-year training programme at the Anker photo studio with a focus on advertising photography. His work has been exhibited widely, including the large-format outdoor show "Mit Abstand am Schönsten" in Ingolstadt in 2021, in which 50 aerial works were presented across public spaces throughout the city.
