Chiasme refers to a place of crossroads, where forms change. In this series, Seong-gu imagines the moment where we, as human beings, let go to fulfil the highest version of ourselves. Thus his work explore the constantly evolving human experience, shaped not by changes in human nature but by shifting cultural and environmental contexts. As Lee reflects, “It’s not that people themselves have changed, but the world around them has.”
Seong-gu is a Korean sculptor who wrestles with themes of experience, and the chrysalis of presence. His sculptures are mostly empty air, with a delicate filigree of hard metal, to subtly imply the fuller narrative. So the medium serves the metaphor.
