Description

Ritva builds paintings you want to touch. Layer on layer of paper, paint, shimmering mica powder and stitched thread and beads come together into rich, textured surfaces, abstract but full of incident. Her pieces closer resemble something grown or woven rather than simply painted.

She works in mixed media, layering paper collage and acrylic with mica powders and hand-applied threads and beads, so each piece carries a strong sense of the materials it is made from. A later spell of specialist printmaking added another set of marks to draw on.
