Description
Mario Henrique paints faces at speed, leaving the speed in the picture. His large portraits are made fast and physically, with drips, throws and splashes of paint, often on rough or unlikely surfaces, so you can read the whole act of making them in the finished work.
He trained in design in Lisbon and spent a decade as a creative director in advertising across Portugal, Spain and Brazil before turning to art full time. He works in acrylic and oil, often on cardboard or the back of a canvas, keeping the surface as unpolished as the marks he makes on it.
